South Street Memorial Plaques

The Quadrangle in South Street has a set of four plaques commemorating pupils of Madras College who lost their lives in service of their country in the two World Wars.

The Madras College Magazine has some information on pupils serving in these wars but for obvious reasons stopped reporting on casualties.

Research has been done by a former pupil of Madras College on the service lives of almost all of these people.

A small number remain elusive - a list and contact details are available here for anyone who may be able to help to complete the biographies.

We are grateful to Ken Paterson for all the work he has done in researching
and assembling the information and presenting it to the school

Some information from the Madras College Magazine and other sources has been researched for the following:

James G Alexander Charles H Anderson
Charles Gillespie Kenneth S Hall
John M Rodger Ralph Rattray
Logan Studley Robert Niven Lamond
Thomas Drysdale

A Roll of Honour was printed in the Madras College Magazine from the start of World War One giving information on those serving in the Armed Forces and of casualties.  The last one was in the Summer 1915 issue.  The Summer 1916 issue gave biographies of some fatalities but did not include the Roll.
