|
The Jock Hutchison Cup for boys was
presented to this school in the year 1926 by Jock Hutchison, who attended
this school when it was a primary. He started his golfing career by being a caddie on the St Andrews Golf Courses. His mother helped by selling his father's fish, to buy his golfing equipment. His brother was a local golf professional until he retired quite recently. Jock Hutchison went to America where he became a Professional Golfer and did well in many Tournaments. He returned to this country in 1921 and won the British Open Championship at St Andrews. At the age of 70 he still plays golf. This year, at Augusta, Georgia, in the United States of America, he was playing in the Masters Tournament. The "Jock Hutchison" cup was locked away in a cupboard in 1937 and when Mr Inglis came in 1956 he started the championship again. From the Abbey Times number 3, 1st May 1964 |
