Sir Robert Smith Aikman M.A. (1844 - 1917)

The Gazette for 18 January 1910 reports:

The Fourth Knight of the New Year List, Robert Smith Aikman, Esquire, late Puisne Judge of the High Court of Judicature, North Western Provinces, will be dubbed at the next Investiture.

The 'Old Boys Chronicle' in the Madras College Magazine for December 1904 reports:

"The 'Old Boys' of earlier and of later standing are everywhere giving a good account of themselves. Even while it is impossible here to refer to all who are eminent, the names of a few may now be set on record as bringing every credit to their former school .... the Honourable Robert Smith Aikman, Judge in the High Court, Allahanad, India, a member of a well-known St Andrews family ..."
 

The Dundee Courier 10 April 1917 reported:

"DEATH OF A DISTINGUISHED AT ANDREWS NATIVE. The death is announced in London of Sir Robert Smith Aikman, a distinguished native of St Andrews,.  He was educated at Madras College and St Andrews University and afterwards entered the Indian Civil Service, where he had a brilliant career. For fifteen years he was Puisne Judge of the High Court of the North-Western Provinces and for three years Chancellor of Allahabad University.  He retired in 1909 and was shortly afterwards knighted.  He was an LL.D of St Andrews University. Deceased was seventy-three years of age.
