Royal Wedding
1964

The Saltire Society Project 1964.

Class IIG undertook the composition, rehearsal and production of a play highlighting one of the many scenes from the Life of St. Andrews Cathedral . . . namely the marriage of James V and Mary of Guise in 1538. The dialogue for the play was suggested by the pupils and the historical background was dealt with during history periods. Costume was difficult but help was obtained from the Senior School, while Mr. A. B. Paterson of the Byre Theatre kindly lent some of the more colourful items such as feathers and cloaks. Parents also provided many minor items. The play was designed for classroom presentation but also lent itself readily to filming, and with the help of Mr J. D. Wallace a colour film-strip was made of the play against the authentic historical background, wherever this was possible.
